The stonefly hatch is in full swing on the Lower Deschutes right now. In fact, it seems like the bugs are already starting to fade in the Maupin area. Fishing has been a little tough lately, but those willing to pound the banks and get up under the trees are being rewarded with some nice fish. The overcast day we saw on Friday brought us some great surface action. Go prepared with something other than a Chubby Chernobyl....it seems like that's what about 90 percent of the fisherman are using right now and the fish are definitely getting wise. We had quite a few refusals yesterday on the Chubby. The fishing will hold up, but get out there soon as it won't last forever.
