The Lower river is in good shape

The Lower D near the town of Maupin is in good shape at this time. The level is a bit higher than in the summer, but very fishable. The clarity is also a bit more turbid than we see in the summer, but still very fishable. Smaller stone nymphs fished under an indicator along with your favorite mayfly pattern has been a good tactic. Brown stones in the 8-1o range along with size 18-14 copper johns, PT's or Hare's Ears should get some play. Look for rise forms in the early afternoon hours, as a BWO hatch should occur. We will also start to see some March Browns in the mix soon. The river is fairly empty at this time, so finding good water to fish is not a problem. March and April always are a great time for solitude and redsides.
