Two weeks of hot weather have spurred the salmonflies into action on the Deschutes around town. This hatch is relatively short lived and generally not as intense as the hatch on the Lower River. However, it still gets the attention of some of the river's bigger trout. Remember, salmonfly nymphs prefer fast, well oxygenated water. Therefore you aren't likely to find many salmonflies in the long stretches of flat water that define the Deschutes above Bend. Look to the rapids and waterfall areas and you should find bugs and fish willing to eat them. Remember, the river is still closed above Benham Falls.
