Spring on the Met.
The Metolius has been well, the Metolius. From day to day the reports range from terrible to awesome. That's just the nature of this river. It holds it's secrets tight and doesn't give them up easily. BWO's, small stones and some caddis are available. The BWO's have showed decently and is usually the most successful dry fly fishing of the day. Set up around 1-2pm in a good spot and watch for the bugs, followed by the rise forms. Bulls are available, but a few of the lake run fish have dropped back, so there might be a few less to entice. Soon the rainbows will spawn, so an egg pattern is not a bad thing to try out. The upper river will remain closed to protect the majority of the spawners. If you see paired up fish in shallow water, it's best to leave them be.
