Late Season Fishing on the Deschutes

As the end of 2012 approaches, there are still fishing opportunities to be had on the Lower Deschutes. Steelhead are completly spread throughout the Lower Deschutes at this time. Yes it has been a tough year for lots of us. However, there are still steelhead to be caught. Sometimes fishing this late in the year can be really rewarding. There should be less crowds giving you the opportunity to fish almost anything you choose. If you head down, nymphing stonefly patterns with an egg dropper is hard to beat. For the swingers out there, using a sink tip and leech pattern will be key to success. The fish have been the system for quite sometime now and getting down to their level can be huge. Some great patterns are: The Moal Leech, Hobo Spey, Articulated Egg Sucking Leech, and The Extractor. Also remember the Warm Springs section closes December 31st. Steelhead Fishing isn't over yet!
