Friday at Crane.

I fished Crane Friday with my son Eric and buddy Brad.  Our goal was to move a lot and fish several techniques to see if we could get the fish nailed down a little better.  Well, we accomplished the move often and try many areas, depths, and tactics part.  Despite the great weather and just right wind, there was almost nothing hatching, so that didn't help.  We marked a lot of fish in some areas, but the bite was slow, one here, one there.  There's clearly more scouting to do, but some things did begin to sort themselves out.  We got more bites off the channels than we did in.  Red was the best color.  A slow stripped chironomid, bugger, caddis, or baetis nymph will get some bites.  With the high, cool water, the fish aren't as channel oriented as they will be later.  There are some wild fish around in that 17+ range, and there are some nice brookies to be caught.  Ah, paying our dues at Crane, waiting for Mr. Big. . . . tight lines.  -  Jeff
