Good fishing on the D

The lower D has been a good place to be. The fishing is picking up with good hatches of March Browns, BWO's and a few Skwala stones too. The nymph fishing has been good, with stonefly and dropper combos. The stone of choice has been size 8-10 and dark olive/brown in color. The dropper seems to matter less, as PT's, Copper Johns of various colors, Princes and almost anything that is in the 16-14 zone and drifted down close to the bottom is getting looks. The flows are a bit high, but look to softer water and just be careful wading. The "normal" summer spots will not fish as well, just look downstream and closer to the shore and you should be in the zone. The middle river is running at 672cfs. This portion of river above Lake Billy Chinook fishes well in the spring, but 672 is on the high side of being fishable. Expect the water to be in the willows a bit more and your wading to be ch alleged more. 300-500 is great, over 700 is really tough going. March Browns, Skwala's, BWO's and soon to come, Large Stonefly's!!
