Spring is just around the corner
The Metolius has been a decent option for anglers in the last week or so. The trout fishing here is always tough, but if success is had, it's special for sure. The BWO hatch will happen, but each day is different. Some days the fish are working and some days their not. Overcast days help the fish feel comfortable and they will rise more readily. The bugs usually are thicker on these days as well. The wind is not your friend during mayfly hatches, as these dainty bugs with upright wings, get thrashed like a sailboat in a hurricane. If the stars don't align for good dry fly fishing, hook up a point fly like an Oct. Caddis Pupa or Golden Stone along with PT's, Copper Johns or Princes. Cover the buckets and deeper portions of the pools with these subsurface offerings. Make sure your drifts are dead and you are getting down. Flourocarbon leaders and tippets will help get a few more strikes and being it's a bit more abrasion resistant, save a few flies in the process.
