The LD is still big

The Lower river is still pumping at 6950 cfs out of the dam near Warm Springs. This means that the Maupin area is still a bit high, as you add Shitike Creek, Trout Creek, The Warm Spring River and a few other small creeks that add flow below the dam. It will probably be a few more days before we have decent levels to fish, but when it happens the fishing will be good. BWO hatches appear in the early afternoon hours, so look to the softer waters and watch for rise forms. The river will likely be void of anglers and finding good water is not a problem at this time of the year. If you arrive early fish brown stone nymphs in the 8-10 size range along with your favorite mayfly nymph in the 18-16 range. Copper Johns, Pheasant tails and olive hare's ears are a good bet. Make sure your nymphs are getting down through the water column fast enough to fish early in the drift and continue to feed line as your indicator passes you. Long drifts pass more fish and improve your chances one of those redsides will grab hold.
