The Met is back in shape
The Metolius is now at 1810 cfs and has continued to drop over the last week or so. We saw a bit of turbidity and higher than normal flows recently, but 1810 is not bad. Anglers have reported decent catches of big bulls with most tossing ridiculously large streamers. This is a fun way to fish, as the grabs are usually violent as these big predators attack your fly. The trout anglers are fairing well fishing nymphs early and watching for BWO hatches around 1pm or so. Nymphing a large "lead" fly like a stone or cased caddis will get you down and attach a small Copper John, PT, Olive Hare's Ear or zebra midge as your dropper. It might be wise to take a "lunch break" around 12:30 by your favorite pool and wait for the BWO's to appear. Let it happen and pick off rising fish with precise casts and one good presentation. Have a few patterns ready, if you get a refusal, tie on a new bug and let him have it again. Don't "overfish", as too many casts over the same fish may put him down.
