The Metolius is a great place to spend a winter day. The Bull trout fishing has been good and anglers tossing big streamers have had success. Nymph tactics can take these big fish as well, but knowing just where to drift those offerings helps a great deal. For big streamers think "baitfish" type patterns and bigger is usually better. Don't be shy about changing your presentation. Stripping fast/slow, dead drifting into their face and swinging on a tight line down and across are all options when chasing these fish. Look closely as the clear waters might allow you to spot these "logs" sitting close to the bottom. Those that are chasing the rainbows have had some success nymphing small mayfly patterns behind a heavier lead fly, but look to the early afternoon hours to produce the best as the BWO hatch will occur around 1pm or so.
