Below Dillon Falls

Got a chance to get up to the Upper Deschutes on Sunday, May 20 with Kevin to do some brown trout fishing around Dillon Falls.  We motored up to the base of the falls and then waded up through the braids that start there, dry fly fishing with big Salmon Fly patterns to see who was home.  We got some really good action from loads of smaller fish, mostly Bows, but we were in search of big Browns, so we continued on.

We reached a couple of nice big eddy's at the top of the falls where we did finally get a couple lunkers to take Salmon Fly dries out of the foam.  A white-winged Chubby Chernobyl was the flavor of the day for a couple of 16-inch plus Browns that we came across.

We then headed back to the boat and I introduced Kevin to a bit of a Colorado-born fishing technique I like to call the Bump-Bump-Mend.  It is sure to not only excite some fish, but get the fishermen all fired up as well, as was the case with Kevin.  Ask him about the Bump-Bump-Mend next time you see him and you're sure to hear the excitement in his voice.
