Salmonfly time is here!
The big bugs are starting to show in the lower river near Maupin, as well as the middle river above Lake Billy Chinook. You can fish these big flies through June, so get them while you can. Remember that consistant success can be had during this hatch if you bushwhack the treed banks and find those grassy shorelines with a bit of depth. Don't wait until you see fish rising, go make them rise. Be aggressive, move a lot and find the willing players. There have been a few bugs in the Warm Springs area, but it will be a week or two before things are full bore. The river is a bit higher than normal and colored a bit. Visibility was 3ft or 4ft this weekend in the Warm Springs Area. The nymphs were taking fish. Good fishing is in our future!
