The Crooked on June 9th.
Matt Paluch and I guided 4 really good guys from the Bay Area Saturday on the Crooked and had a good time. Two of them had never fly fished before and despite giving each other a bad time like only guy friends can do, everyone landed numbers of fish, including Zach's first fly rod trout. We started off nymphing, but with quite few redbands hitting our indicators, it was time to go dry and dropper. The "indicator fly" didn't seem to matter much, but the best droppers were caddis and BWO emergers. The river was in great shape and surprisingly, not crowded, allowing all 4 of the guys to fish several reaches together from Big Bend to Chimney Rock. I just checked, and the flows are at 226 cfs, so the river is still in good shape and a pretty easy wade. Go get 'em. - Jeff
