Tough Catching
I guided Tuesday and Wednesday on the Warm Springs to Trout Creek run. It seems like the fish are in a food coma right now. Lots of caddis and mayfly activity, but very little surface feeding was observed the last two days. In an attempt to locate hungry fish I moved the boat a lot and we tried lots of different tactics, including (gasp!) floating nymphs under indicators. However, it was still the big stonefly dries that accounted for the few larger fish we were able to land. There's still a few trout around that haven't had their fill yet. I don't expect this slow fishing to last much longer. The river is on the drop after a brief spike to 4800 and the caddis hatches are getting thick. Get ready for some phenomenal evening dry fly fishing!
