The Upper Deschutes has been fishing great lately. As always, using dry flies throughout the day will yield plenty of the smaller fish. Parachute Adams, black ants, and para-wolf patriots are just a few of the many consistent dry fly patterns we like to use up there. However, there are some larger fish to be caught in the upper stretches of the D. Try throwing streamers or dead drifting nymphs in the deeper pockets or along the cut-banks. It is tough to get the bigger fish to come to the surface for a dry fly, so putting a streamer or nymph right in front of them can lead to a hook-up with a big rainbow or brookie.
