East Lake Sunday, 6-10.
I took a nice family to East last Sunday and although the fishing was just fair, we had a good time. It was the first really nice, warm, mostly calm day in awhile, but the lake hadn't really turned on after all of the cold, unsettled weather. It took a lot of searching, but we eventually caught a mix of 'bows, browns, and atlantic salmon fishing both indicators and wind-drifting. Our best indicator action came on small zebra midges with soft-hackle pheasant tail droppers in about 15' of water on the West side. Wind drifting -- actually more of a cast 'n strip since there was so little wind -- was more productive in 15-17' between the Lodge and the Hot Springs. Intermediate lines with Sparkle Baetis or tan Birds Nest nymphs with soft hackle 'baetis trailers worked the best. There were swarms of size 24 little grey midges in the air, so a few days of consistently warm weather should get both the bigger bugs and the fish going. If you're feeling hard core, stripping buggers or large minnow imitations will produce some good browns early and late. Tight lines - Jeff
