Fishing Picking Up On The Lower Deschutes
I've been down the the Lower Deschutes the past couple of days with one couple from Orange County, CA and a small Jeld-Wen group from Georgia. Both groups saw good fishing on nymphs, both small patterns like Blueberry's, Red Copper John's, and Hair's Ears in size 18 dropped below size 12 Jimmy Legs. The Jimmy Legs stonefly imitations are something that we've just pulled back out now that there is a chance of there being some Steelhead running around the upper part of the Lower Deschutes.
Toward the end of the day on Monday with Fred & Inger, Fred hooked into what must have been a Steelhead. After a good 15 minutes fight with only 5x leader to land him on, the fish came unpinned, much to our disappointment. Nevertheless, both Fred and Inger saw good fishing throughout the day which resulted in a few very nice fish to hand.
Having had success with the stonefly nymphs the previous day, I went to it again on Tuesday with Billy, Kevin and Don from Jeld-Wen. We saw good action throughout the day on both the small nymph as well as the larger stonefly imitation.
