Tough but Good on the Crooked River

I was out this past Tuesday and Wednesday with two couples on the Crooked River.  Both couples had experienced husbands and wives who were new to fly fishing.  We worked on casting and hook sets primarily and had a chance to work with nymph rigs as well as dry flies.  Tension casting and overhead casting, of course.

We nymphed with size 18 bead head Pheasant Tail and Bird's Nest patters with a Winker's Midge dropper.  Added a #4 split shot to get it down.  We dry fly fished with a Pale Morning Dun emerger and parachute pattern that was working well.  Also fished an E/C Caddis a bit, but had less luck with that than the PMD.

Overall the fishing was decent, but we had to work harder than we have had to previously.  The fish are getting a bit more discerning about what they take and when they'll take it.
