Steelhead Report
Steelhead are spread throughout the lower 100 miles of river right now. Biggest concentrations of fish seem to be in the Maupin area. However, some good reports have been coming in from the upper river around Warm Springs and Trout Creek. Numbers of fish don't seem to be particularly high this year so we are working hard and covering lots of water to find willing fish. But, hey, this is steelhead fishing with a swung fly. It's not supposed to be easy! The bright side is the fish seem to be a few inches bigger than usual, with quite a few fish in the 26-28 inch range showing up. Water temps are favorable for skating flies and hairwing patterns on floating lines. Switching it up to a sink tip and a larger profile fly when the sun is on the water has been very effective as well.
