Steelhead are present up above Sheras Falls now all the way up to Warm Springs. However, I would suggest South Juntcion and below for the most consitent fishing. Swinging and skating traditionals in the morning has been awesome! Deschutes steelhead can be very surface oriented, so don't be afraid to try skating some dries. We have an awesome selection of skaters here at Fly & Field. During mid-day, swinging small intruders on sink tips have been producing along with nymphing big stones and glo bugs. This time of year its all about covering lots of water and putting your time on the water. There is nothing like summer steelhead on the Lower Deschutes, and I can't wait to get down there once again!
Trout Fishing has been really good. Caddis, Bwo's, and little mayflies have been fishing well under tree's and riffles. Keep your eye out for October Caddis which should hatching very soon. Nymphing this time of year for trout is also a great way to "accidently" hook a steelhead. Quite a ride hooking steelhead on trout gear so get ready for a show! This is one of my favorite times on the Lower Deschutes so get on out there!
