Stonefly action!

The fat lady has not sung yet! The stonefly action roared back yesterday on the Deschutes, providing one of the best evenings of dry fly fishing I've seen yet this season. I only had one angler in my boat, Jim Stavosky, so he got to fish a ton of good water. We floated Warm Springs to Trout Creek. We put in around noon and the fishing was very good between Warm Springs and Mecca, but hit a lull late in the afternoon, and then between 6:00 and 9:00 the fishing was off the hook! Most boats were off the water before the fishing got hot, so we had a deserted river at our disposal. The fish were feeding so aggressively on egg-laying golden stones and dying salmonflies you could hear the rises up and down the river. SLURP! We pretty much stuck with Chubby Chernobyls in smaller sizes and had all the action we could handle. I credit the incredible fishing to one of the warmest evenings we've seen in a while. If it continues to stay warm the dry fly fishing will last for a few more days, but the bugs are fading fast. It's not going to last forever! Get out there now!
