Stonefly Season has closed

Well, the stonefly hatch is done, although this week we did trick a few more trout into eating those big bugs. For the most part it's time to think about smaller bugs. Pmd's, Ped's, yellow sallies and caddis will be the go to bugs. It's up to you to determine what time and which place to fish these insects. Spinners or spent caddis will collect in the back eddies early in the day. The Pmd hatches are usually around the 1-2pm time frame, especially on overcast days. Those hot sunny afternoon's can be a bit tough for the surface fishing, but the nymphing can keep your rod bent. PT's, Hare's Ear, caddis larvae and pupa along with a variety of nymphs in the 14-18 range fished deep can lead to hookups. As soon as some shade begins to appear around the trees, it's time to stalk risers with emergant caddis patterns, yellow sallies or Evening Dun imitations. The last couple of hours can be awesome, so stay late if you want some of that epic dry fly fishing.
