Sunday Lava report

Big Lava has been slowing down over the last couple of days. We had great conditions (manageable breeze, high overcast, light rain late), a strong hatch of small, mostly dark, chironomids, lots of fish on the scope, and . . . only a handful landed on twice that many bites. It could be the old "When the wind blows from the East, the fish bite the least." It could be that the "ice-out bite" is over and that we're just waiting for the calebaetis hatch to get the shallow water bite going again. In any case, chironomid hatches are still strong and the ant fall could happen any day & trigger the best dry fly fishing of the year for the bigger Lava 'bows. It's a crazy Spring, but I'm looking forward to fishing the warm & sunny predicted for later this week. Tight lines - Jeff
