Still a few days left, but not many!
I fished The Warm Springs area on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning with a couple friends. Tuesday, the winds were heavy and seemed to put a damper on our efforts. Not that fishing was bad, just seemed more fun to hang out with good friends, sip on some adult beverages and watch the river. It seemed like guys were doing well close to dark. The river was fairly busy and there definitely were less bugs on the banks than the previous week. Wednesday we woke up and started fishing around 9am. The winds were more cooperative and our efforts more significant. The sun was shining and the fishing was good. Lots of looks to the big bugs(we never fished anything else), but the hookup ratio was not great. Lots of refusals, slaps and such. No matter, the most fun is seeing those fish explode on fly. No fish came from riffles or mid river type stuff. I can't recall a fish that was more than 10ft off the bank, and most came from under tree limbs. The Bow and Arrow casts were where it was at. The tougher the situation the more likely you'd see a fish. Get out while you can, I don't expect the big bugs to be around for more than a week, but then it's PMD/Caddis time!
