Another Fine Day on the Crooked River

Despite losing their luggage on arrival to Central Oregon, Jon & Ann, from Virginia, were able to make time in their schedule for a quick half day trip out to the Crooked River today.  Although having never wet a line before, it was Ann that stuck the majority of the fish caught today between the couple.  Nevertheless, Jon learned loads of new tricks that he'll be able to take back with him to Virginia to improve his catch rate there on his return.  Hopefully with the good day of fishing that Ann had nymphing, she will be equally as "hooked" as Jon in the future...which always works out well for a husband who is clearly addicted to the allure of fly fishing!

We primarily nymphed today, combining caddis and mayfly nymph patterns.  Action on caddis dries was too slow to warrant that method for long, but we did give it a go.  After the half day ended, though, there was a massive yellow sally mayfly hatch that came off in the flats, and I was lucky enough to hook 30+ fish on a Light Cahill that I had running around my fly box.  I wish that Jon & Ann had booked a full day trip...but hindsight is 20-20 as they say.
