PhD Trout

Well, the Deschutes is still kicking out some very nice trout.  However, they are getting tougher and tougher to catch.  Rising water temps and fishing pressure are making these big old fish wary.  Catching fish with consistency requires an excellent presentation and very small flies.  The fish in the backeddies can be maddening right now.  Size 20 dries matched up with 6x tippets are often required in the eddies and slicks.  There are a lot of dead caddis on the water and the fish are favoring those to the live bugs.  Pay attention to the details and you will hook more fish...the same tactics that worked a month ago are getting snubbed.
