East Lake this past week.

Jay with his 21" brown.
Sherry could fish and caught nice trout in spite of her guide.
Alfredo shows son David how it's done.
Jake gets us going:  atlantic salmon.
I fished East Lake with really nice clients 4 days this week and, in general, the catching was good as long as we were flexible about tactics.  Saturday was a good dry fly bite on either thorax or extended body baetis 'til about 11 when it just shut off even though there were still lots of bugs coming off.  Despite a big baetis hatch, Sunday & Monday dry fly fishing was just onsies-twosies, although all the 'bows landed were fat 12-16 inchers.  There was almost no hatch at all on Wednesday, but we did manage another couple of good 'bows on dries before switching it up.  All four days fished well with indicators and chironomids, and we landed some pretty nice browns and 'bows with a few in the 18-21' range every day.  Red chironomids & baetis nymphs or soft hackles were the best flies.  We also did some wind-drifting in 12-18' of water just for a change of pace.  Baetis nymphs were outstanding for kokanee around 13-14"most days, although we had one wind-drift day where all but one fish were atlantics.  Needless to say, my guests loved the acrobatic little salmon.  If you just need to feel a jerk at the other end of the line or have kids that want to do some catching, East Lake is definitely starting to come on.  Tight lines - Jeff

Mr. Big Fish!  22" healthy buck brown.
P.S. -- My clients were having so much fun that my fishing partners and I decided to fish East ourselves on Saturday.  We didn't work too hard at it and still landed good numbers of nice sized kokanee, 'bows to 17", and Brad's 22" buck brown.  FYI, it was supposed to be sunny and 80 degrees with 5 mph of wind, but we had 10-15 mph of N wind, scattered clouds, and temps in the low to mid 60s .  Good thing we all had jackets.  As always fishing Central Oregon, wear your bathing suit, but bring a parka.  -  Jeff
