Excellent Crooked River Fishing

A game-time decision to head to the Crooked River instead of the Upper Deschutes paid of well this morning.  Julie and I headed out and fished high on the river, not far below the spillway, and did quite well on both nymph rigs and dry flies.  The best action was right toward the end of the half day on a PMD variation when a good hatch of yellow sallies came off.  The birds were feeding heavily as were the Rainbow Trout.

Julie utilized her newly-taught tight-line casting skills for the first part of the morning, fishing a double nymph rig with a caddis pupa variation below a Psycho Prince, doing well with the rainbows.  Just after noon, we hastily switched to a dry fly rig and continued to whack more fish with the dry, as compared to the nymph rig.

Overall, it was a great few hours on the water and I really look forward to introducing Julie to some steelhead fishing in the fall when she returns to Central Oregon.
