With the Deschutes trout fishing getting tougher by the day, I've been taking a lot of my guide trips to the Crooked lately. August is a great month out there. The fish are bigger and fatter than they were a few months ago. 8-12 inch fish are plentiful and we are seeing a few every day in the 13-14 inch range. The usual micro nymphs under an indicator have been super effective, however, the last couple of weeks we have seen a good mid-day caddis hatch that has had the fish looking up. A tan x-caddis in a size 16 has been a perfect match for this hatch.
