I was afforded the opportunity to spend a half day trip with the Hrachovec family this morning. As usual, fly fishing the Crooked River was spectacular. Not only were the fish cooperative, but the scenery never fails to impress. We fished up high, just below Big Bend Campground, less than a mile below the Prineville Reservoir Dam.
We fished nymph rigs and had success on chironomid patterns with white heads and red bodies (yes...a chironomid!) and psycho prince patterns. We were using 5x leaders and tippets, which was enough to fool the Crooked River rainbows and a few white fish as well.
