Gear up for the Metolius
August and September is one of the best times to fish the Metolius River. With Golden Stones already appearing, fishing big dries and golden stone fly nymphs will be one of the top picks for the Metolius. Remember though this river can be one of the most challenging rivers in Central Oregon so be well equipped with various Caddis patterns, PMD'S, Yellow Sally's, and Rusty Spinners. If you are interested in chasing the Bull trout, get ready for the spawning run of Kokane Salmon that migrate into the Metolius from Lake Billy Chinook. This is a food source for the predatory Bull Trout. Throwing streamers is the best way to entice these large fish. With many different opportunities for fishing the Metolius this time of year, go on out and experience this beautiful river.
